Governance

Assuring strong governance that oversees, guides and supports effective delivery of agreed programmes and actions is a priority of Child Welfare South Africa Kleinmond.

Ensuring legal and fiscal compliance is a critical area of our governance; risk management procedures are also prioritised with due regard to managing current and emerging issues, as well as anticipating new challenges.

Accountability and transparency are key values that we strive to uphold in all our dealings.

Human Resources

The Board of Child Welfare South Africa Kleinmond is very active and supports all managers and staff alike this approach gives our organisation a sense of family and belonging, as well as promoting leadership, transparency, accountability and integrity. The Board is ultimately responsible for the Strategy and Governance of Child Welfare South Africa Kleinmond, but it delegates the day-to-day management of Child Welfare South Africa Kleinmond and its various projects to its full-time staff under the leadership of its General Manager.

Human Resource Management takes place within the parameters of labour legislation and Child Welfare South Africa human resource policies and procedures that regulate the relationship of staff to the organisation and vice versa.

We strive to continuously upskill our staff and their relevant knowledge in their roles within the organisation, especially as staff might know little about management and their rights. We also have volunteers who give their time and expertise as well as serve on the Committees of the various projects that are managed under the umbrella of Child Welfare South Africa Kleinmond as an NPO.

When appropriate, we also request the assistance of regional personnel of Child Welfare South Africa to assist our organisation in the recruitment and appointment of Social Work staff.

The human resource challenge within the NPO sector with regard to the retention of staff is well known – the high turnover of Social Work staff may often be due to work overload, burnout and remuneration issues.

The risk of continuing exodus of staff requires Child Welfare South Africa regional teams to engage in orientation and in-service training of incoming staff on an on-going basis.

Finance

The financial operations of Child Welfare South Africa take place within legislative frameworks regulating the Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) sector and are set out in the National Welfare Act (Act 100 of 1978) and the Non-Profit Organisations Act (Act 71 of 1997)

Child Welfare South Africa Kleinmond is a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO). Financial compliance is required in respect of adherence to generally acceptable accounting practices and the submission of audited financial statements and reports at regular intervals.

In addition, Child Welfare South Africa Kleinmond is required to comply with the provisions of its own Constitution in relation to financial matters and in this regard, benefits from the expertise of a national finance committee that oversees financial matters.

We also rely on our subsidy from Department of Social Development, donors, sponsors and charitable trusts for their continuous support to our organisation.
